Bozeman Clean-Up Week Invites Community Members To Lend A Hand, Clean Streets Of Litter

Bozeman, Mont. — Bozeman is getting ready for Clean Up Week 2026 as the city asks residents to help clear litter and debris from neighborhoods and parks.  

Natalie Meyer, sustainability program manager for the City of Bozeman, says the efforts are tied into the city’s broader goals for environmental sustainability.  

"The city of Bozeman has sustainability and climate goals, and this helps us really with the environmental quality piece, ensuring that we’re not polluting our community," said Meyer.  

Meyer explained that even small cleanup efforts can make a difference, especially when debris ends up in the environment.  

"A lot of it is construction debris, plastics, when that gets out in the environment, then we start talking about concerns about microplastics and that has impacts on human health, as well as wildlife and water quality. So, everything we can do to remove that from the environment helps us out," said Meyer.  

Bozeman Clean Up Week runs from April 25 to May 3 this year, but it is also part of a much broader ongoing effort. Clean Up Week has been a staple within Bozeman for over 18 years.  

The city says the effort is primarily focused on litter that accumulates during winter and could wash into the city's rivers and streams.  

City Commissioner Emma Bode says the cleanup also gives the community a simple way to stay involved in their neighborhoods.  

"I think cleaning up your neighborhood or a park near your home is one of the most accessible ways that you can easily give back to your community and see the physical impacts of it right away. You know, your walk to work or to the grocery store is going to be beautified by that effort," said Bode.  

Other Montana communities also held cleanup events this month.  

Helena held a spring cleanup on April 11th, Missoula hosted the Clark Fork River cleanup on April 18th, and the City of Billings plans to take part in the Great American Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 25.

Cleanup kits are also available for pickup at the Gallatin Valley Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 25.
