Bozeman High School evacuated after bomb threat; police say incident was hoax

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Bozeman High School was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after staff received a recorded message claiming there was a bomb threat on campus. Law enforcement later determined the threat was not credible and said it appeared consistent with similar “swatting” calls targeting schools in other areas.

According to press releases from the Bozeman Police Department and Bozeman Public Schools, school staff received the message shortly after noon and immediately contacted Gallatin County Dispatch. Out of an abundance of caution, administrators evacuated the building and moved students and staff to the football stadium while officers responded.

Police and school resource officers quickly arrived on scene and conducted a full sweep of the campus. After completing their search, authorities confirmed the building was safe and found no evidence of any threat.

Students were cleared to return to classrooms around 1:15 p.m., and the school day continued on its normal afternoon schedule.

District officials said the situation followed established safety protocols and emphasized that student safety is always the top priority. They also noted the threat appeared similar to other hoax calls reported at schools across the region and nationwide.

Administrators praised students and staff for remaining calm during the evacuation. Counseling services were made available for anyone who needed support after the incident.

Police said there is no ongoing danger to the school or community and thanked both school staff and officers for their quick and coordinated response.
