Bozeman Park Project Honors I-Ho Pomeroy’s Community Legacy

Bozeman, Mont. — A new park in downtown Bozeman is being built to honor the life and work of longtime community member I-Ho Pomeroy.  

The project is called I-Ho Pomeroy Peace Park. It sits at the corner of North Black Avenue and East Mendenhall Street and marks Bozeman's newest park installation.  

Derik Pomeroy – I-Ho's husband - says the project means a lot to his family. 

“Oh, its unbelievably positive, it touches my heart a lot. It’s a great honor for our family and we’re very pleased that that’s happened,” said Derik Pomeroy.  

I-Ho Pomeroy was known in Bozeman for years. She passed away in 2024 after a battle with cancer.  

When she was not running her namesake restaurant – I-Ho's Korean Grill – just off main street, she also served for a decade on the Bozeman City Commission. 

Derik Pomeroy described how the path of community engagement for I-Ho grew over time when they moved to Bozeman. The two met in Korea in 1986 and were married just a year later in 1987. 

“She wanted to do something to make a little extra money, so I built her a food cart. The food cart led to the restaurant, the restaurant led to the fundraisers, her engagement in the community led to her deciding that she wanted to give back and so she ran for city commission and served two and a half terms,” said Derik Pomeroy.  

The park is set to include Korean art elements, added landscaping, new seating and site furnishings, and expanded bike parking.  

Addison Martonick with Sanbell said those details were chosen to reflect the life and legacy of I-Ho. 

“To the bike racks, to the benches, to the arch, arches that are going to go into the entrances, all of those elements were thoughtfully picked out and designed with I-Ho Pomeroy in mind,” said Martonick.  

The project broke ground in November of 2025 and has now moved into phase two of construction. The park is set to open to the public in June.
