Butte man pleads guilty to felony DUI, criminal endangerment

A Butte man pleaded guilty to felony DUI and two counts of criminal endangerment on Wednesday afternoon in Butte-Silver Bow District Court, according to the court clerk, in connection with an incident in which he crashed into two vehicles while driving the wrong way on Montana Street last summer.

Denis Edward Lund, 41, was originally charged with felony DUI (fourth or subsequent offense) and five felony counts of criminal endangerment, each charge punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He had pleaded not guilty last November.

Judge Robert Whelan presided over Wednesday’s change of plea hearing. Prosecutor Kaitlyn Lamb had said that Lund — with three previous DUIs to his name — was on methamphetamine while driving his three children on Aug. 9, 2025, in the wrong direction on Montana Street. Lund collided into another car, then proceeded to run head-on into a pickup, according to court documents.

Lund attended the hearing alongside public defender Jack Morris. His next court date was set for July 8.
