Butte-Silver Bow Community Hub project receives $100,000 grant from Washington Foundation
Butte-Silver Bow County has received a $100,000 grant from the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation, in conjunction with Montana Resources, to support continued progress on the B-SB Community Hub project.
B-SB Chief Executive J.P. Gallagher said the contribution reinforces the importance of the project and the positive impact it will have on the community of Butte-Silver Bow. He added that the funding will allow the county to advance preliminary design, programming and planning efforts for a facility envisioned to serve residents of all ages and backgrounds.
“We are sincerely thankful to the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation and Montana Resources for their generosity and belief in this project. Their support ensures that we can continue the essential design and programming work needed to bring the Community Hub closer to reality,” said Gallagher.
According to a news release, Butte-Silver Bow was originally selected to receive a $20 million Community Change Grant, a major federal investment intended to help bring the project to life. However, the award was later rescinded by the Trump administration, halting the anticipated funding.
The grant was to be provided by the EPA’s Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants Program.
“Losing the Community Change Grant was a significant disappointment, but it did not diminish our determination,” said the chief executive. “We continue to pursue every available funding source to ensure this vision becomes a reality.”
Prior to the grant being voided, plans were underway to start construction of the center this summer near the Butte Civic Center.
Gallagher said the $100,000 grant from the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation represents an important step in that ongoing effort, helping maintain momentum as Butte-Silver Bow seeks additional partners and resources.
“Our community deserves this Community Hub, and we will keep moving forward,” said Gallagher.
