Chouteau County deputies prepare for emergencies with new training

FORT BENTON, Mont. — Deputies with the Chouteau County Sheriff's Office have spent the last two evenings training for active shooter response and building clearing at the county courthouse.

The sheriff's office said it had also worked over the past few months with courthouse staff and local schools to improve safety steps and overall security.

More training and joint exercises are scheduled in the coming weeks with the courthouse and local schools, the sheriff's office announced, as it focuses on coordinated response and preparedness.

The agency said Deputy Kuhn recently completed the ALERRT Active Attack Integrated Response train-the-trainer course and basic quick reaction force training. The office said that work would help deputies continue in-house instruction across the department.
