BIG TIMBER, Mont. — A wildfire is burning about 20 miles south of Big Timber, according to an update by Custer Gallatin National Forest (CGNF).

Forest officials said the Davis Gulch Fire is smoldering with light smoke on a ridge top in the Derby burn scar, about 1.5 miles southwest of Deer Creek Forest Service cabin on the Yellowstone Ranger District.

The remote location and limited access could restrict suppression work, resulting in smoke for the next few days, CGNF said.

The cause remains under investigation.
