On Wednesday morning, the Deer Lodge Police Department announced on its Facebook page the death of Assistant Police Chief Ron Slauson.

The 48-year-old Slauson, according to a department news brief, died at his home in Deer Lodge on Tuesday morning. No cause of death was provided.

Tributes and personal reflections came pouring in on Facebook.

“He was such a good coach, officer and person,” wrote one woman. Another wrote, “Rest in peace to a brother in Blue.”

Condolences were also sent from the Great Falls Police Department: “Our hearts are with you, and his family, as you celebrate his service and sacrifice.”

Memorial Legacy, a digital platform, said Slauson served with integrity, courage and compassion.

“Those who served alongside him remember a leader who was steady under pressure, thoughtful in decision-making and deeply committed to the well-being of both his officers and the public.”

Slauson joined the Deer Lodge police force on Aug. 26, 2021.
