Drug Take Back Day brings in 27,590 pounds across Rocky Mountain states

Montana Drug Take-Back Programs Growing

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — The DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division announced that its latest Drug Take Back Day on April 25 brought in 27,590 pounds of unused and expired medications across Colorado, Utah, Montana and Wyoming.

That total came from 157 law enforcement agencies working at 225 collection sites across the four-state division. The agency reported the April event brought in 5,388 more pounds than the October 2025 collection.

Utah led the division with 13,626 pounds collected at 108 sites run by 70 departments. Colorado followed with 11,519 pounds from 85 sites, while Montana collected 1,239 pounds and Wyoming collected 1,206 pounds.

DEA Rocky Mountain Field Division Special Agent in Charge David Olesky praised the public response and the agencies involved.

"We're extremely thankful to people in our Rocky Mountain Division who took the time to get rid of their medications in the proper manner," said DEA RMFD Special Agent in Charge David Olesky. "We're also very appreciative of our local and state partners who assist in the collection, preventing potential misuse or abuse of prescription medication."

The DEA said the previous Take Back Day in October 2025 collected 22,202 pounds across the same four states. Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana all contributed to that earlier total through 203 collection sites.

The agency also said it has collected more than 20 million pounds nationwide since 2010. It said the program helps keep medications out of landfills and water supplies by making sure they are destroyed through incineration.
