Evans Riceville Road near Belt down to one lane after slide
BELT, Mont. —Evans Riceville Road, south of Belt off Highway 89, is restricted to one lane due to damage caused by heavy rainfall today.
The slide happened about four miles west of Highway 89, where part of the northbound lane gave way and moved down the mountainside, the county said.
Public Works crews and local engineers responded and reduced that stretch to one-lane traffic.
Drivers are asked to slow down, watch for oncoming traffic and stay alert for shifting soil or debris.
Large trucks, oversized vehicles and heavy loads are not allowed through that section, the county warned.
The county also asked people to avoid hauling heavy loads there to help protect the remaining lane.
At this point, the county does not expect to close the road completely, but officials said that could change depending on weather and road stability. Travelers who need another option are encouraged to use Evans Riceville Road from the Stockett side as an alternate route.
