Fire displaces Belgrade family

A fire on Birch Lane in Belgrade displaced a family of four and killed three pets.

Firefighters with Central Valley Fire District responded to the incident at 17 Birch Lane in shortly after 4:43 a.m. April 11 when a 911 call was placed to Gallatin County 911.

“Upon arrival, crews found a working structure fire and initiated an aggressive fire attack,” reads an April 11 press release from Central Valley Fire District. “Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent further extension. Mutual aid assistance was provided by the American Medical Response, Bozeman Fire Department and the Hyalite Fire District.”

The fire displaced two adults and two children.

“There were no reported injuries to occupants or responding personnel,” reads the release. “Tragically, three pets died as a result of the fire. The displaced residents are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.”

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental in nature, originating from a space heater within a bedroom.

“This incident serves as a critical reminder that working smoke alarms significantly increase the chance of survival in a fire,” reads the release. “The Central Valley Fire District encourages all residents to check their smoke alarms monthly, replace batteries as needed, and ensure alarms are installed in every sleeping area and on every level of the home.”
