Flathead County authorities clear suspicious device report following shelter-in-place

UPDATE: April 18, 2026 at 9:04 p.m.

According to the Flathead County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement transported the device to the Ferndale Fire Department. Authorities determined that the device did not contain any dangerous material, and ensured there was no threat to the public.

The scene has been cleared.


BIGFORK, Mont. — The Flathead OES reported an explosive device in the area of Highway 209 and Ferndale Drive and directed people nearby to shelter in place.

People are advised to stay indoors and away from windows and doors. Additionally, people should not approach the area.

Law enforcement said additional information would be provided.
