Gallatin Valley Land Trust Conserves 75k Acres Throughout Southwest Montana

BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) has achieved a significant milestone in its mission to conserve land in southwest Montana.  

A total of 75,000 acres across Gallatin, Madison and Park counties has been permanently protected.  

This conservation success is the result of collaboration among 140 families throughout Bozeman.  

These families have chosen to preserve their land from further development, opting instead for agriculture, ranching, farming, and open space. 

Chet Work, the Executive Director of the Gallatin Valley Land Trust, expressed his thoughts on the achievement.  

"At the end of the day, there’s 140 parcels of various sizes where the landowners have chosen to forego developing their property in favor of agriculture, ranching, farming, open space and obviously the habitat and scenery that comes along with that," he said. 

Despite reaching this impressive goal, GVLT officials have stated that this is just the beginning of their conservation efforts. 

They have plans in the near future for 18 more projects aimed at conserving an additional 20,000 acres in Montana.
