Get to know MSU guard Tyler Hall

Question: Who/What got you into basketball?

Tyler Hall: My family, really my mom and dad. They’re both coaches, so growing up I was around it all the time. They both played in college, so it kind of runs in the family.

Q: Of all the colleges you could have gone to, why did you choose MSU?

TH: First, it was Coach Fish recruiting me here. Then when I got out here I loved the campus. I loved the arena and everything MSU was about.

Q: What’s your favorite memory as a Bobcat?

TH: Beating the Griz my sophomore year, just because it was the last game of the conference season. It was senior night, so it was special for those guys that were leaving.

Q: What does being a Bobcat mean to you?

TH: It means a lot. It’s more than basketball, it’s a community. I enjoy that part of it. All the little kids and fans coming means a lot to me.

Q: What’s your pre-game routine?

TH: I usually show up two hours early and get some shots up and listen to music. Nothing too special.

Q: How many shots do you take a day on average?

TH: I try to get up like 200 makes.

Q: How many shots does it take you to get to 200 makes?

TH: It depends on what I’m shooting. I would say probably 300… 400 some days.

Q: If your life was a movie what would you title it, and who would you want to play the lead role?

TH: I don’t know what I would title it… that’s a tough one. But I would probably want Will Smith to play the lead role.

Q: Growing up and even now are there basketball players that you look up to and try to be like?

TH: I try to model my game after a lot of players. My favorites are Paul George, C.J. McCollum and Devin Booker. But actually, I have a guy in the NBA from my home city, Chasson Randle (Washington Wizards point guard). He is who I’ve looked up to my whole life and he is still who I look up to.

Q: How would you describe your style of play?

TH: Obviously, I’m a shooter. I like to score long range. I like to get up and down and, you know, get the ball up quick. It’s kind of like a west coast style of play.

Q: I was here when you scored 44 points a few years back, do you feel like sometimes you get into a zone and you aren’t going to miss?

TH: Yeah, I mean sometimes. My teammates do a really good job of getting me open. Sometimes you a make a few and the rim just looks huge. So you do kind of get into a zone.

Q: What does it feel like?

TH: It’s something special. It’s real fun… It’s why you play the game.

Q: If you could be any animal what would you be and why?

TH: Probably a tiger. They’re strong, they’re fast and they can pretty much do it all.

Q: Do you have any goals for this year?

TH: Win the conference and make it to the NCAA tournament.

Q: This being your last year, what are your plans after college?

TH: I probably will enter the NBA draft again and see how that goes, and try to play professionally somewhere whether it’s here or overseas.

Q: If you could get picked by any NBA team who would you want to pick you?

TH: The Chicago Bulls because it’s my in-state team and I’d be close to home.
