Great Falls schools lift shelter-in-place after police catch person

Great Falls, Mont. — A shelter-in-place at CMR High, Riverview Elementary and Valley View Elementary ended after officers caught a person following a short chase on foot.

The update came in a Facebook post from the Great Falls Police Department, which reported that officers took the person into custody by 10:55 a.m. on May 19, 2026.

Police said the shelter-in-place started around 10:35 a.m. on May 19, 2026 while officers checked out suspicious activity in the neighborhood near the schools.

School resource officers Fleming and Kinsey placed the three schools into shelter-in-place as a precaution, according to the department.

The post said the schools later returned to normal activity.
