Great Falls solid waste rate changes begin June 1

GREAT FALLS, Montana — The City of Great Falls announced that the second and final phase of approved solid waste rate changes will take effect on June 1, 2026.

The City Commission approved the changes on May 6, 2025. The city said the adjustments were tied to increased landfill costs and equipment upgrades.

The city also said Resolution 10573 changed the former senior citizen rate to a low-to-moderate income rate. Residents could receive a discounted rate by applying through Opportunities, Inc.'s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

The city said the discounted rate was not automatically applied to accounts that previously received the senior citizen rate.
