Helena brothers to serve prison time in drug case

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Two Helena brothers were sentenced after admitting they possessed methamphetamine and fentanyl with plans to distribute the drugs, Acting U.S. Attorney Tim Racicot said in a release.

Austin Leon Timothy Hagman, 36, pleaded guilty in November 2025 and was sentenced to 12 years in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release.

Michael Wayne Hagman, 40, also pleaded guilty in November 2025 and was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

According to court documents, investigators had been looking into the brothers' drug distribution activity since November 2024. Investigators said they intercepted a package with two pounds of methamphetamine that was headed to the brothers' Helena home.

That investigation led officers to get a search warrant for the Helena residence after information came from two sources. Inside, law enforcement reported finding methamphetamine and fentanyl, nearly $40,000 in cash, several rifles and shotguns, ammunition and firearm accessories.

After the search, Austin Hagman spoke with law enforcement and described drug sales and prices, according to the release. Investigators also found $5,000 in cash on him and said he told them it all came from that day.

Court records said Austin Hagman also admitted the intercepted package from December was meant for him. He estimated he had obtained about 20 ounces of fentanyl powder, four to five pounds of meth and 2,000 pills of fentanyl from his supplier.

Michael Hagman told law enforcement in a March 20, 2025, interview that he got methamphetamine and fentanyl from a co-conspirator and sold the drugs in the Helena area, according to the release.

He said the co-conspirator sometimes fronted him drugs and that he made money by selling methamphetamine for more than he paid.
