Helena garbage truck fire leaves smoke and odor on Silverette Street

HELENA, Mont. — A garbage truck caught fire on Silverette Street below Hauser Avenue, leaving cleanup crews in the area and smoke and odor lingering nearby.

According to a City of Helena press release, the driver got out before firefighters reached the truck. Crews put the fire out before it spread and no one was hurt.

People who live nearby or drive through the area may still notice some smoke smell for a while.

Firefighters stayed on scene to help with cleanup and make sure the area was safe.

The release said state regulatory agencies were notified and environmental protections were put in place to limit any lasting impact.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation.
