Helena nonprofit awards scholarships to two Montana youth

HELENA, Mont. — Two Montana youth from Stevensville received help with their next step through a Helena-based nonprofit that supports families affected by veteran suicide.

Cienna and Lynnlee Morris each received a $3,000 Green Star Scholarship.

"It means a whole bunch that they’re doing this for us, for the families, for everyone," Cienna Morris said.

The scholarship came through the Center for Warriors Foundation’s Green Star Scholarship Program.

The Morris family is a Green Star family, meaning they are surviving family members affected by veteran suicide.

Rob Rule, the foundation’s founder and executive director, said he wanted to help after learning about the family’s history.

"This family has my heart because of how bad the things they’ve been dealt. These two little girls here and the whole entire family are really special people," Rule said.

Lynnlee plans to use her scholarship for welding school in Missouri and to help pay expenses.

Cienna has not decided where she plans to go to school, but she said the money gives her support as she looks ahead.
