Helena Senate leaders remove Windy Boy from committee posts

HELENA, Mont. — Senate leaders in Helena removed Sen. Jonathan Windy Boy from interim committee assignments and renewed calls for him to resign.

A press release said Senate President Matt Regier, R-Kalispell, and Senate Minority Leader Pat Flowers, D-Bozeman, asked the Senate Committee on Committees to meet. The committee removed Windy Boy, D-Box Elder, from his interim committee posts and named other senators to fill them.

Sen. Jacinda Morigeau, D-Arlee, will serve on the State-Tribal Relations Interim Committee. Sen. Laura Smith, D-Helena, was appointed to the Senate Finance & Claims Committee and the Section E Interim Budget Committee.

The release also said Regier, with support from Flowers, pulled Windy Boy from the School Funding Interim Commission. Sen. Dave Fern, D-Whitefish, was named to that spot. [Montana Legislature](#)

Regier and Flowers also called again for Windy Boy to step down from the Senate. The press release said they pointed to what they described as a pattern of sexual harassment, with known incidents and credible allegations stretching back more than two decades and involving minors and legislative staff.

Regier and Flowers laid out that message in a joint statement.

“We’re taking the steps within our authority to hold Senator Windy Boy accountable for his actions and protect the integrity of the Montana Senate, including stripping him of all appointed responsibilities for the remainder of the current legislative cycle,” Regier and Flowers said. “Sen. Windy Boy still needs to do the right thing and completely resign from public office.”
