Higgins Avenue in Missoula to see overnight closures amid water main replacement
MISSOULA, Mont. – City officials announced on Friday that Higgins Avenue, between Keith Avenue and University Avenue, will be impacted by overnight closures on Monday, May 18, and Wednesday, May 20.
These closures were reportedly planned to allow crews to complete emergency roadway repairs in connection with an ongoing water main replacement project.
On Monday, city officials noted that the closures will begin by 7 p.m. at the earliest, and the roadway will be reopened by 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The work is scheduled to continue around the same time on Wednesday, May 20, with the repairs estimated to be completed by 7 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, May 21.
“Crews will use road plates during daytime hours to maintain traffic flow,” city officials stated. “Given the high traffic volumes of Higgins Avenue and the limited availability of alternate routes, the City Utilities team has scheduled the work overnight to reduce impacts on daytime traffic and nearby businesses.”
Drivers are urged to drive slowly and exercise caution while traveling within and around the construction zone. More information on the city’s plans for traffic control during this project has been published online.
