High school-aged male dies on MSU’s campus, investigation ongoing

An individual died after jumping from the MSU Parking Garage roof in the early hours on Saturday morning, according to the Bozeman Police Department Media Report released on Sunday.

When asked for comment by the Exponent on Wednesday, Interim Vice President of University Communications Michael Becker said that just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, officers from the MSU Police Department responded to a report of an individual in distress who had reportedly jumped from the top of the parking garage.

“Upon arrival, officers located a high school-aged male, and despite immediate response efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Becker said. “The incident is being investigated as a suicide.”

Becker added that MSU responders, the Bozeman Police and Fire Departments, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office coroner and chaplain and an EMS service were on scene.

The specific cause of death and identity of the deceased will be released by the Gallatin County coroner, according to Becker.
