Jonathan Windy Boy re-enters congressional race after previously suspending campaign

HELENA, Mont. - State Senator Jonathan Windy Boy announced in a press release that he is re-entering the race to represent Montana's 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives. In April, Montana Democratic Party Chair Shannon O'Brien said that Windy Boy was dropping out of the race.

O'Brien said she was "deeply troubled" to learn "about allegations of serious sexual abuse against Mr. Windy Boy" in a statement released on April 16.

Windy Boy said the allegations in question were matters that "were previously investigated, referred to law enforcement, and that the matter was vacated over twenty years ago" according to a press release. He also accused his opponent, Brian J. Miller, of committing a "coordinated political smear campaign effort designed to damage his credibility by character assassination."

Windy Boy stepped down from his committee chairmanship in 2019 amid allegations of harassing a female lawmaker via text.

On Monday, he was removed from committee assignments by Montana Senate leaders. Senate President Matt Regier (R-Kalispell) and Minority Leader Pat Flowers (D-Bozeman) also called on him to resign from public office.

"My enemies are making a lot of noise but just as before there have been no charges, no adjudication, this is all dirty politics, based upon rumors and slanderous allegations to influence election outcomes just weeks before voting begins," Windy Boy said.
