During a recent Women in Business Club meeting on March 6, Liz Marchi, an influential figure in the entrepreneurial world and a staunch advocate for women's advancement in business, shared her extensive experience and insights.

The student-led organization within the Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship is dedicated to educating, connecting and mentoring aspiring women entrepreneurs, according to the MSU website.

Marchi underscored the importance of long-term vision, mentorship and wealth-building for future female leaders in business. "Women still struggle with the demands of work and family. There are only so many hours in every day, I would like to see more women focus on wealth building," she said when asked about the challenges women face in the contemporary business world. She emphasized the critical need for women to aspire to greater achievements within the business sector.

Marchi's journey began in Auburn, AL. Her father, an inventor constrained by limited access to early-stage capital, significantly influenced her path into finance — a sector that has dramatically evolved since her start in 1978, "amidst a soaring crime rate and the absence of modern computing," Marchi said. She pursued her career with the intention to forge a path for aspiring entrepreneurs. She identified her role, stating, “I saw a void in the marketplace for early-stage capital and mentors.”

She further delved into the ongoing challenges women face in the business world, particularly the balancing act between professional ambitions and family responsibilities. "Women still struggle. Many women are very purpose-driven [and] finding a way to sustain purpose at profit is very important," she said, urging women to ambitiously explore their potential in the business landscape.

Marchi's address wasn't solely about identifying hurdles for women in business fields, but also providing strategies for overcoming them. She emphasized the significance of long-term vision and perseverance. "Realize this is a long game and keep your sights on the endpoint. Where is it you are going and why? Never give up," she said.

The venture capitalist also highlighted the importance of being present in "money rooms," where critical financial decisions are made, advocating for women to seize opportunities to influence these discussions.

Marchi's address was both a reflection on her successes and a call to action for the next generation of female entrepreneurs to navigate the rapidly evolving business landscape with acumen and agility. She encouraged embracing lifelong learning, seeking meaningful work that aligns with purpose and profit and understanding the value of resilience in the face of adversity.

"If it's meant to be, it's up to me," Marchi reminded, encouraging attendees to be proactive in effecting change.

At the end of her presentation, Marchi offered her mentorship and encouraged attendees to reach out to her, reinforcing the Women in Business Club's mission to foster the growth of future female leaders in business.

When asked for her perspective on strategies for navigating the evolving business environment, with a focus on opportunities for women entrepreneurs, she stated, “Take off the abundance, there is so much to learn, see, do and imagine. Embark on your journey with a positive mindset about what’s possible, don’t spend your time or energy with negative people or negative thoughts and read, read, read!”
