Man accused of shooting at car in downtown Missoula makes 1st court appearance

A man accused of shooting at a car that allegedly deliberately struck him in downtown Missoula made his first court appearance Tuesday morning on a charge of criminal endangerment.

Anthony Brodie, 36, had his initial appearance before Judge Jason Marks in Missoula County District Court to set bond conditions.

According to charging documents, early on April 5 Laurent Mugondozi appeared at the Ryman Street police station with a bullet in his leg and several bullet holes in his car. He was sent to St. Patrick Hospital.

Police then found business surveillance footage that showed 36-year-old Brodie on the corner of a sidewalk and alleyway, talking with others. A car then began to turn into the alleyway and quickly ran into Brodie. A witness reported seeing Brodie thrown into a building by the impact. There were pedestrians in the area who fled from the scene.

The car then drove away from the scene. Charging documents state Brodie walked toward the fleeing car while firing a gun at it. Police believe this to be Mugondozi's car.

Both Mugondozi and Brodie were arrested. Mugondozi was charged with assault with a weapon, criminal endangerment and DUI.

Brodie's bail amount was listed at $50,000, and he is no longer in custody, according to the Missoula County Jail roster. Mugondozi is also no longer in custody.

Brodie will appear for arraignment on April 20, according to prosecutor Chance Carter. Arraignment hearings are when a defendant enters a plea of guilty or not guilty.
