Man alleged to have stabbed his father southeast of Belgrade

A 28-year-old man was in the Gallatin County jail as of Saturday following accusations he stabbed his father multiple times on March 18 at their home southeast of Belgrade.

The man, Robert Marion Blosser, reportedly told authorities he began feeling disoriented and hearing voices telling him to hurt people for the last couple weeks after he'd changed his medication. Blosser indicated he hadn't told anyone about hearing voices, according to an affidavit a sheriff’s deputy filed in county justice court.

“When asked, Robert stated he was standing over the Victim watching him sleep for approximately five minutes prior to stabbing him,” reads the affidavit. “When asked, Robert said the ‘voices’ told him to ‘hurt’ the Victim. Robert stated he retrieved one knife from the kitchen.”

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the family’s home in Valley Grove, which is east of Cowan and north of Kerns, shortly after 1:25 a.m. March 17. That's when Blosser’s mother had called 911.

“My son has had a nervous breakdown,” she told the dispatcher, according to the deputy's affidavit. “He’s stabbing my husband. Help us, please. There’s blood all over my hands. I just grabbed a knife.”

Deputies arrived on scene, detained Blosser, and observed his father was “covered head to toe in blood,” according to the affidavit. The older man was taken to Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital.

“The Victim’s wounds appeared to be multiple lacerations to his hands, face, top of his head, and a large laceration to his abdomen,” reads the affidavit. “Deputies observed the Victim’s intestines were protruding from his abdomen. Additionally, Deputies stated there was a large amount of blood throughout the residence. Deputies indicated there were two bloody knives in the residence.”

His mother reportedly told authorities the family went to dinner, watched a movie, and then retired around 10 p.m. She reported being woken up by yelling and banging around 1:52 a.m. Her husband was sleeping in a separate room due to one of them having recently had a contagious virus.

After seeing her son and husband on the ground near the home’s entrance, she separated them and convinced her son to give her the knife, according to the affidavit.

Blosser seemed “gone” and like a “zombie” similar to after he’d received mental health treatment in Texas, his mother allegedly reported. She reportedly told authorities she thought her son suffered a psychotic break after learning his college football coach had died earlier in the evening. She said her son had stopped taking his medication recently at the advice of his doctor, according to the affidavit.

Blosser reportedly waived his right to remain silent.

"When asked, Robert stated he went to dinner with his family," reads the affidavit. "Robert continued to struggle to remember his activity prior to the incident. Robert was told he was bloody and that there was blood all over his home. Robert stated, 'I just lost control I guess.' Robert stated, 'I just thought I was the devil, and that I was going to end his life.'"

Blosser allegedly said he wanted to send his father to heaven and hadn’t intended to harm his mother.

“When asked, Robert told me he stabbed the Victim with a knife he got from a kitchen drawer,” reads the deputy’s affidavit. “When asked, Robert stated he’s had previous thoughts of killing the Victim. Robert said he did not have a plan after he stabbed the Victim.”

Blosser reportedly admitted to having thoughts about harming himself as well as others. He didn’t explain how he got his own injuries — lacerations on his hands, according to the affidavit. He was treated at the hospital before being taken to jail.

“When asked, Robert indicated the devil made him stab the Victim and he was still hearing the devil,” reads the affidavit.
