HELENA, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation announced it will begin re-striping state-maintained roads in the coming weeks as crews work to improve visibility and safety for drivers.

The agency said the work will be a slow-moving mobile operation, with equipment traveling about 10 mph. MDT reported crews will install inlaid edge strips and replace center skip stripes.

Bridge decks also will be striped, but those markings will not be inlaid. MDT said crews may also replace edge and center skip strips where needed.

Drivers are asked to watch for workers and obey posted signs during the work. The agency also warned that paint will be wet after it is applied and said motorists should avoid driving on freshly striped lines.

The striping work is part of its yearly maintenance program to keep road markings easier to see.
