Missoula butterfly house adds cockroach races to derby-themed event

MISSOULA, Mont. — The Missoula Butterfly House and Insectarium brought a Kentucky Derby-themed cockroach race to Missoula, with 12 Madagascar hissing cockroaches competing in the event.

The organization had considered holding cockroach races alongside the Kentucky Derby for years before bringing the idea to Missoula. Two staff members built a racetrack modeled after Churchill Downs for the exhibit.

They also tested different track designs to see which one worked best for the cockroaches.

Talk To Me Arthur won the race.
