Montana physician (Tyler James Hurst) gets convicted for sexual assault

MISSOULA, Mont. — A former Missoula doctor who admitted to crimes involving multiple patients was sentenced to 100 years with the Montana Department of Corrections, with 60 years suspended.

Tyler James Hurst pleaded guilty in a case tied to seven victims.

Court documents showed the case ended with eight counts, including multiple felony counts of sexual intercourse without consent and sexual assault charges.

Investigators expanded the case as they continued their review and more alleged victims came forward.

The sentence meant Hurst was set to serve 40 years in prison followed by decades of supervision. The Montana Board of Pardons and Parole will determine whether he becomes eligible for parole.

Deputy County Attorney Brielle Lande said the sentence reflected the seriousness of the crimes and recognized the impact on the victims who came forward.

Lande also said victims will have a chance to take part in future parole proceedings if Hurst becomes eligible for release.
