Missoula rural firefighters extinguish morning porch fire

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Missoula Rural Fire District responded to a Thursday morning fire on the porch of a one-story home.

The district said it sent firefighters to 4110 South 3rd Street West at 6:05 a.m. after receiving a report of a small fire on the porch of a house.

When firefighters arrived seven minutes after being dispatched, the fire on the front porch had grown to be “heavy,” the district said.

Firefighters fought the porch fire for around 20 minutes and extinguished it in around an hour, the district said. It said crews started with an aggressive attack at the porch and then moved into the house to finish extinguishing it.

The home sustained "significant damage,” but no injuries were reported, the district said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

“MRFD would like to remind the public to always have working smoke detectors installed in their homes. Smoke detectors should be installed in all bedrooms and outside of all sleeping areas on every level of the home,” the district said.
