Missoula sheriff warns of jury duty scam calls

MISSOULA, Mont. — The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) issued a scam alert about calls from someone claiming to be “Lieutenant Murray Pierce” and saying there was an arrest warrant for missed jury service.

The sheriff’s office reported the calls came from 406-215-4634. It said the number had been linked to the username “MISSOULACNTY” and could appear on caller ID.

The agency said scammers also told some people to pull over so deputies could come to their location and arrest them. It also reported that a document with the federal courthouse address was sent with a fake electronic signature for Amy McGee and a judge identified as “Honorable Susan Walters.”

The sheriff’s office said its personnel and other law enforcement or government agencies would not call to threaten someone or demand immediate payment.
