MSU is holding a Juneteenth celebration

BOZEMAN, Mont, – Montana State University will host a Juneteenth event in celebration of the federal holiday. It will be free and open to the public.

The event is dated for Friday, June 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Strand Union building in room 185.

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the U.S.

The Student Commons, Access and Success, and the MSU Library will be hosting the celebration.

There will be food, live music, raffles and stations that will also be included for creating storytelling quilt squares, reading Juneteenth related books, and solving word puzzles.

Red cosmos will also be planted. Growth and liberation are represented in the red cosmos.

An off campus celebration will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tinworks Art, Cultured Roots and Studio Wheelhouse.

The afternoon event will also feature live music, food, storytelling and community resources.

“The event is an opportunity to honor community, culture and history,” said Student Commons director Sophia Bielsky.
