New principals to take the reins at middle and high schools

Starting in July, Jessica Christensen will be the new principal of Belgrade Middle School, and Bertrand Horsley will be the new principal of Belgrade High School.

Both appointments are effective July 1, 2026, according to a Friday statement from Belgrade Public Schools.

"These leadership transitions represent a combined 40 years of expertise in public education, with both administrators having served the Belgrade community for over a decade in various instructional and leadership capacities.

Jessica Christensen brings 18 years of educational experience to her new role, including 13 years within Belgrade Middle School," reads the district's Friday statement. "Her tenure in the district has been defined by a variety of leadership roles, including serving as a teacher, coach, athletic director, and most recently, assistant principal.

A graduate of the University of Wyoming, Christensen holds a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Grand Canyon University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Capella University.

"Having raised five children within the Belgrade community, she remains deeply involved in local youth development through her leadership of a local volleyball club and participation in community events," reads the statement.

Horsley has more than 20 years of experience in public education.

"His extensive background includes more than ten years as the high school’s assistant principal, as well as prior experience as a special education teacher at both the middle and high school levels," reads the statement.

Horsley earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond and his Master’s degree from Lynchburg College. Before coming to Belgrade, he taught in Virginia and coached both wrestling and football.

He and his family are active members of the Belgrade community, where they enjoy the diverse outdoor opportunities the region provides," according to the district.

"The appointment of Christensen and Horsley ensures a seamless transition for the 2026–2027 school year," reads the statement. "Their deep familiarity with the district’s students, staff, and long-term goals will support the continued growth and success of Belgrade’s education programs."
