New welcome signs greet Montana travelers, state enters deadliest driving period / Montana Department of Transportation

MONTANA — New “Welcome to Montana” signs are now going up at entry points around the state ahead of the busy Memorial Day weekend.

The new signs followed a statewide vote announced in November, when Gov. Greg Gianforte and the Montana Department of Commerce shared three final designs and gave Montanans until December 31 to pick a favorite.

Crews have been busy putting in the new signs and will continue installation at state entry points as weather and access allows.

Meantime, the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) warns Memorial Day weekend marks the start of what they call the "100 Deadliest Days".

Montana ranks among the highest in the country for traffic deaths caused by impaired driving.

MHP asks everyone stay safe this weekend by taking advantage of a designated driver, buckling up and following the speed limit.
