Police blotter: Man threatens woman on Pine Street

PFMA offense

Christopher M. Smith, 35, of Butte was taken into custody at around 3:30 a.m. on Monday for partner or family member assault, causing reasonable apprehension of bodily injury (third offense).

According to the police report, Smith allegedly threatened a woman at a residence in the 2800 block of Pine Street. The woman then reportedly barricaded herself in a room because she was fearful.

Smith also allegedly then threatened her through texts.

Stealing at Safeway

Just before 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, a transient, Charles J. Madigan, 37, was allegedly seen taking firewood and bottled water from Safeway, 2500 Massachusetts Ave.

When officers arrived, Madigan was reportedly standing with a shopping cart of wood and water outside a nearby restaurant, Hanging Five.

He was arrested for theft (third offense) and probation violation.

Sunday sighting

Early Sunday afternoon, an officer out on patrol saw Tyson W. Clay, 38, of Butte sitting in a car near the intersection of Third Street and Nevada Avenue.

The officer knew Clay had warrants out for his arrest and took him into custody without incident.

Suspected meth

On Friday morning, a baggie of suspected methamphetamine was found on the floor of Montana Lil’s Casino, 1400 Harrison Ave. The suspected drugs were turned over to the police.

No return

Late Friday afternoon, a man reported that he let a woman he knows borrow his cell phone, but she has yet to return it.

Domino effect

On Saturday morning, the driver of a pickup truck reportedly hit a U-Haul trailer at 3300 Harrison Ave. The incident apparently led to a domino effect, with, one by one, nine other trailers being damaged as well. The driver of the truck left the scene, but officers were able to track him down and cited him for the incident.

Only on loan

More than a week ago, the owner of a 2024 Mitsubishi loaned out his vehicle to a friend. On Saturday night, he reported the friend had yet to return it.

Fire attempt

At around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, a resident living in the 900 block of Caledonia Street reported that someone attempted to light a fire near his home.

Stolen binoculars

On Sunday afternoon it was reported that a 2011 GMC Sierra parked in the 3200 block of Harrison Avenue had its driver’s-side window broken out and rangefinder binoculars were taken.

Door damaged

Also on Sunday afternoon, someone attempted to enter a garage in the 3100 block of Wynne Avenue. The would-be thief was unsuccessful, but the garage door was damaged in the attempt.
