MSU’s 23rd basketball coach may be familiar to lifelong Bobcat basketball fans. Danny Sprinkle, known for his impressive career at MSU in the late 90’s, was named the new head coach of the men’s team on Thursday, April 4. A Bobcat through and through, Sprinkle hopes to bring winning ways and a conference championship back to Bozeman.

“I couldn’t be any more grateful for all those who have helped me along the way.” Sprinkle tweeted once the news was announced, “I am more than excited for this new opportunity to give back to the Bozeman community and program.”

A Helena native, Sprinkle made his mark on the 1996 Bobcat team when he poured in 30 points in the Big Sky Tournament Championship to lead the Cats to the NCAA tournament. In 1997, he earned first-team all Big Sky honors.

Sprinkle went on to coach at multiple schools, including Cal State Northridge and Cal State Fullerton where he helped lead the latter to the NCAA tournament in 2017-18. Sprinkle averaged 13.4 points per game in his time at MSU and still is the seventh all-time scoring leader at MSU.
