Triple Bridges access near Alberton to close during bridge work

Alberton, Mont. — A bridge replacement project on Interstate 90 near Alberton will shut down walk-in river access at the popular Triple Bridges area starting April 15.

The closure affects parts of Old Highway 10 West, a pedestrian bridge and a kayaker trail. Those areas will be closed to the public for safety during construction.

The Clark Fork River will stay open for floating ahead of the summer season. Major access points including Cyr Bridge, Tarkio, Tarkio East and Ralph’s Takeout will remain open.

Boat operators were advised to use caution and move quickly through the Triple Bridges area while construction continues.

Vivaca Crowser, communication and education manager at FWP, said river users who usually float from Sierra Bridge to Takeo Fishing Access Site would still be able to use those access points.

"One thing that's important to know is if you like to float the river from kind of the typical spot is from Sierra Bridge to Takeo, fishing access site. No changes other than when you're in that triple bridges area on the water. Just be aware and move through quickly. That's what MDT is asking, just so that as construction is going on, we're not hanging out in the construction zone, but nothing is changing to those access sites," said Crowser.

The project was expected to continue through most of next year and be finished by fall of 2027.
