Trump nominee Katie Lane confirmed to Montana federal bench

MONTANA - Montana has a new federal judge as the U.S. Senate confirms Katie Lane to serve in the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana. 

The Senate voted 52-46 along party lines to approve Lane, a Republican National Committee lawyer, for the district court seat. 

Lane grew up in Bozeman and graduated from George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School in 2017. She later clerked for a U.S. district judge and a Tenth Circuit Court judge. 

Attorney General Knudsen, who previously appointed Lane as Deputy Solicitor General of Montana, praised her confirmation.

“Congratulations to Katie on her well-deserved confirmation as Montana’s newest federal judge. Katie brings a wealth of knowledge and integrity to the bench that will continue to make Montana a great place to live and raise a family. It’s been a pleasure to get to know Katie since she first joined my office five years ago and I look forward to welcoming her home to the Treasure state,” Knudsen said in a release.

Lane had worked in Knudsen’s office before moving to the federal bench. He previously appointed her as Montana’s deputy solicitor general, where she served from May 2021 to March 2023.
