Warming up to the Semester

MSU Debut is always a bright spot in cold, dark, Montana winters, and this year’s slate of events is no exception.

Following a frosty winter break, new and returning students made their way back to campus to begin the spring term on Monday Jan. 13. As the semester opened, MSU hosted debut events to connect students with their fellow Bobcats and encourage them to get involved on campus. 

MSU Debut kicked off on Friday Jan. 10 with the Bowling and Billiards Party, a free event in the basement of the SUB. Students who were ready to get the party started packed the Rec Center, where they were treated to live music, board games, and a variety of snacks. 

The next day, Saturday Jan. 11, sports held court as the men’s basketball team hosted the Portland State University Vikings. MSU fell just short of winning with a final score of 77-76.

On the first day of class, half-asleep and frozen-to-the-core students shambled across MSU’s sidewalks. Thankfully, through MSU Debut, the Office of Student Engagement hosted welcome tents throughout the morning, where they provided these scholastic zombies with toasty hot chocolate and much-needed coffee.

This week, the men’s basketball team takes on Eastern Washington, while the women’s team competes against Idaho State. Be sure to get out and cheer for the Bobcats on Saturday Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. for the men's game and Saturday Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. for the women’s game.

Upcoming MSU Debut events include the Rec Center Rumble on Thursday Jan. 16, Glow Zumba on Wednesday Jan. 22, the Spring Involvement and Study Abroad Fair on Wednesday Jan. 29, Trivia Night on Thursday Jan. 30, and Battle of the Bands on Saturday Feb. 1.
