Whitefish drivers should expect delays as US 93 work resumes

WHITEFISH, Mont. — The Montana Department of Transportation announced roadwork was resuming on the US 93 West of Whitefish project, with traffic impacts starting the week of April 20 and lasting through the end of the summer.

The agency said the work zone starts near Mountainside Drive and stretches about three miles west past Livermore Flats. MDT reported the project began in 2025 and was set to wrap up during the 2026 construction season.

Drivers should prepare for single-lane traffic, slower speeds and stops that could last as long as 15 minutes. MDT urged people to plan extra travel time and use caution in the work zone.

“Safety remains our top priority. This spring and summer will conclude construction on this section of roadway,” said John Schmidt, MDT acting Missoula District Administrator. “We greatly appreciate the public’s continued patience and understanding as we resume vital work that will enhance this corridor’s safety. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.”

According to MDT, the project includes a new road surface, turn lanes, guardrail, wider shoulders, updated signs and a separated shared-use path with ADA-compliant handrails and detectable warning devices.
