Woman jailed on suspicion of DUI crash

A 37-year-old Big Sky woman was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk and trying to leave the area where she allegedly crashed into a US 191 guardrail between Belgrade and West Yellowstone.

The woman, Angela Nellia Pettiford, was jailed following an investigation that began about 11:28 p.m. March 19. At that time, a state trooper reportedly learned of an unknown injury crash on US 191 near Lone Mountain Trail.

“Upon making contact with the driver, I noticed the odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage,” reads the trooper’s affidavit filed in justice court.

Pettiford’s vehicle had struck multiple areas of a guardrail and ditches in an attempt to flee the scene, according to the affidavit.

“The driver called friends to come pick her up from the scene,” reads the affidavit. “The driver never called 911 about the crash. A friend stated they were at a local bar before the crash.”

Pettiford reportedly refused to take a sobriety test and blood test and was arrested.

A blood search warrant was obtained and executed, according to the affidavit.
