1 person severely injured in Lewiston house fire

LEWISTON, Mont. - One person was seriously injured in a house fire on Sunday in the early morning hours. Crews were dispatched to the house on Elm Street, where the single occupant was trapped, at around 1:29 a.m.

Lewiston Fire Rescue said in a social media post that the Lewistown Police Department and the Fergus County Sheriff’s Office arrived first and attempted to rescue the occupant but fire and smoke inside the house were "too intense." A fire engine arrived on the scene within five minutes, and fire crews were able to enter the house and rescue the trapped individual. 

The person was brought by ambulance to the Central Montana Medical Center with "severe injuries," Lewiston Fire Rescue said. 

"13 firefighters responded with 1 Engine, 1 Ladder truck, 1 Rescue Truck and 2 Command vehicles," according to Lewiston Fire Rescue. "The Lewistown Police Department, Fergus County Sheriff’s Office, Central Montana Dispatch, Central Montana Medical Center Ambulance, DES, Red Cross and a crew from Northwestern Energy also assisted with the incident."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
