2 major disaster declarations approved for Montana

HELENA, Mont. - Two major disaster declarations were federally approved for the effects of severe flooding and windstorms that impacted Montana in December 2025. President Trump approved the declarations on April 11.

Major disaster declarations open up federal funds for local governments, tribal nations and some nonprofit organizations to conduct emergency work and infrastructure repair.

"Many of Montana's communities are still recovering from the damage left behind by December's floods and strong wins," Governor Greg Gianforte said in a press release. "These federal disaster declarations will bring important support to help rebuild damaged roads and bridges, restore rural electric systems, and strengthen the infrastructure Montanans depend on every day. Thank you President Trump."

According to the press release, damage to the state in December "confirmed significant infrastructure losses that exceeded federal assistance thresholds."

A public assistance program will be implemented by Montana Disaster and Emergency Services (DES) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
