21-year-old snowmobiler from Minnesota dies in Idaho avalanche

CARROT CANYON, Idaho — A report from Carrot Canyon detailed a tragic avalanche in the Centennial Mountains of eastern Idaho last Sunday. A 21-year-old snowmobiler from Minnesota died in the incident.

Landon, who frequently snowmobiled and had attended multiple avalanche awareness classes with his dad and brother, was the victim of this unfortunate event.

His dad and brother were also trapped in the avalanche but survived after being rescued by the local search and rescue team.

Staff at the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center explained the conditions leading to the avalanche. They said recent storms had deposited fresh snow on top of a weak layer in Carrot Canyon, which created ideal riding conditions but also heightened avalanche danger.
