Afternoon melting creates tricky driving conditions in Montana

MONTANA — As temperatures drop this evening, roads in Montana may become deceptively dangerous due to refreezing, creating black ice.

Kendall Hudson reported live that while snow might melt during the day, the refreeze can particularly affect bridges, overpasses and shaded stretches of road. This thin layer of ice is often difficult to see, making driving conditions treacherous.

Drivers are advised to slow down, maintain extra following distance and exercise caution, especially in the early morning hours when refreezing is most likely.

Hudson highlighted the key takeaway: road conditions at 9 or 10 p.m. can differ significantly from those in the afternoon.
