Avalanche warning issued, unstable snow in Flathead Range
HUNGRY HORSE, Mont.— An avalanche warning has been issued for the Flathead range, highlighting very dangerous conditions, the Flathead Avalanche Center announced.
Rain on snow and rising freezing levels are creating unstable snow, leading to the potential for large avalanches. People recreating in the area are advised to avoid steep terrain entirely.
The center said a recent D4 avalanche on Nyack Mountain in the Flathead Range serves as a stark reminder of the danger. This type of avalanche can destroy multiple buildings and clear forests.
