Browning man sentenced to 2 years for accidental shooting on Blackfeet Indian Reservation

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — A Browning man who shot and killed a woman while handling firearms in his bedroom was sentenced on Friday to 24 months in prison, U.S. Attorney Tim Racicot reported.

According to court documents, Treyson Lee Sharp, 22, invited a woman identified as Jane Doe to his family home on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation for dinner on December 28, 2024. After dinner, the two went to Sharp's bedroom where he showed Doe his Christmas presents, which included a pair of .357 revolvers.

While handling the firearms, Sharp pointed one of the revolvers at Doe and fired the weapon, shooting her in the neck.

Sharp immediately yelled for help. Multiple family members were in the home at the time of the gunshot. One called 911 while another attempted to provide medical aid to Doe, however, she died at the scene.

According to law enforcement interviews, witnesses reported hearing Sharp and Doe laughing in the room immediately before hearing a single shot, followed by Sharp yelling for help.

Police recovered two .357 revolvers, a .44 revolver and a modified shotgun from the home. During further investigation, a bullet hole was located in Sharp's bedroom wall, with a spent projectile outside the house and a brass casing in the wall.

The casing was forensically matched to one of the recovered .357 revolvers. The cylinder of the fired revolver had six chambers: five were empty and one contained a spent casing.

Sharp pleaded guilty in October 2025 to one count of involuntary manslaughter. At Friday's sentencing, he was ordered to serve two years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
