Butte fire crews rescue multiple trauma patients in two recent crashes

BUTTE, Mont. — Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department crews responded to two separate crashes over the past three days that required both rescue operations and emergency medical care.

In a Facebook post, officials said the first crash required the use of extrication tools and a rope rescue system, and prompted a mass casualty alert that brought in multiple ambulances. Crews treated and transported five trauma patients.

The second crash involved two patients who were trapped and suffered traumatic injuries. Interstate 15 was briefly closed to allow a Lifeflight helicopter to land safely.

In both incidents, firefighters worked to extricate patients from damaged vehicles while also providing on-scene medical care
