Federal funding boosts public safety, water infrastructure in Montana

DEER LODGE, MT – More than $2.3 million in federal funding is set to enhance public safety and water infrastructure in Powell and Granite counties. This funding will upgrade Philipsburg's water transmission line and equip Powell County volunteer fire departments with new gear.

In Philipsburg, $1,750,000 is allocated to modernize the town's water system, ensuring reliable access to clean water. Philipsburg Mayor Anne Fillmore expressed gratitude, saying, “Updating Philipsburg’s aging water system is long overdue, and this investment is a big first step.”

In Deer Lodge, $554,969 is designated for Powell County's volunteer fire departments. This will enable the purchase of essential equipment for emergency responses. Powell County Fire Warden Chuck Smith highlighted the importance of this funding, stating, “This funding will help our departments purchase equipment we need to respond safely and quickly.”

This initiative is part of the over $35 million secured for Montana communities in fiscal year 2026. The efforts reflect a collaboration between local officials and community leaders to meet the needs of these rural areas.
