Gallatin County Sheriff's Office warns of phone scam in local community

GALLATIN COUNTY, Mont. — The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) is alerting residents about a phone scam that has become prevalent in the area. Scammers are impersonating deputies, claiming victims owe money for reasons like warrants or missed jury duty.

The scammers request payments through gift cards or money sent over the phone.

GCSO officials emphasized that they will never request money or gift cards.

These calls may appear convincing as scammers can clone phone numbers and use deputy names. Officials urged anyone who receives such a call to hang up immediately.

Residents with concerns can call 582-2100 and leave a message for further assistance.
